Cooking a ham is a relatively simple process that can be done in the oven, on the stovetop, or in a slow cooker. Here is a general guide to cooking a ham in the oven:
Ingredients:
- Ham (bone-in or boneless)
- Brown sugar
- Honey or maple syrup
- Mustard (optional)
- Pineapple (optional)
- Cloves (optional)
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 325ยฐF (160ยฐC).
- Remove the ham from its packaging and rinse it with cold water. Pat the ham dry with paper towels.
- If desired, score the surface of the ham in a diamond pattern with a sharp knife, and insert cloves into the center of each diamond.
- Place the ham in a roasting pan with the cut side down. If using pineapple, place the pineapple slices around the ham.
- In a small bowl, mix together brown sugar, honey or maple syrup, and mustard (if using) to create a glaze. Brush the glaze over the ham, making sure to cover it evenly.
- Cover the ham with aluminum foil and bake for approximately 15-20 minutes per pound, or until the internal temperature of the ham reaches 140ยฐF (60ยฐC). Baste the ham with the glaze every 30 minutes.
- Once the ham has reached the desired temperature, remove it from the oven and allow it to rest for 10-15 minutes before carving.
Note: The cooking time may vary depending on the size of the ham, so it is important to check the internal temperature of the ham with a meat thermometer to ensure that it is fully cooked.
